The grade level I chose to focus on for the ELA Technology Standards is 6-8. The standard that I want to focus on is the first which is integrating visual information with text. What this standard means is that using some type of visual reference when referring to someone that is only text, allows for the information being presented to be retained better. I feel I could implement this skill because it is something that one is exposed to early on. It is also easy to replicate/do because even when one is older, having a visual guide helps to learn something new.

The resources in the CPALMS tool kit all seem to focus on different areas in which to teach/learn something. In order to understand anything, one must analyze it to gain more than a surface level understanding. This means being able to understand certain ideas that one is presented with in a more cohesive way. I would implement this by having students tell me what they understood when they read what was assigned to them. This will lead them to drawing their own conclusions and a better understanding what they had read.

To be entirely honest, I did not learn too many new skills while designing the newsletter. I know a lot about how to use MS Word, so a lot of what I needed to create was knowledge I already had. The thing I would say I learned was applying those skills in a different way. Creating the content of the Newsletter was the most challenging part I would say. If there is anymore assignments that have me use word in this way, I should be better prepared for it.
