Journal 1: Technology in the Classroom
Technology in the classroom is always evolving to incorporate whatever type of technological advancements occur. Teachers do this because it allows to make lessons more engaging or interesting for the student. This is because just as technology evolves, so do the humans that are using it. Their brains and actions begin to revolve around using said piece of technology. By incorporating that new piece of technology, a teacher tries to adapt to the students changing mind.
I think the ISTE standard that most resonates with me is Learner. What this entails is that an educator is always learning about in what ways to keep what they're teaching relevant and fun. This aspect is important because by learning about the new ways to teach something, you too are evolving just as the people you teach are. In sense, just as the students you teach learn from you, you learn from the things that go on around you.
To a certain extent, I believe that today's youth are considered "digital natives." In truth, a digital native can be anybody, because learning new technology is not limited to a single generation. In my experience, learning something like a computer was a lot easier as I was introduced to that at an early age. Because of that, I knew my way around a computer for both educational needs are for recreational purposes. However, a smartphone took me a longer time to get accustomed to as I was not introduced to that until I was teenager. It all comes down to adaptation and who does it the fastest. During my years from elementary school to high school, I was always learning a new way to learn what my teacher was teaching me. When it came to technology, sometimes I was learning something new with my teacher, or I already had prior knowledge to it. Overall, it's just a matter of adaptation and how quickly one can do that.
